I am currently reading Us Two by Janet Hoggarth and it is definitely a story that needs time and great writing to carefully unfold!
Synopsis:
When Florence met Rowena, they knew for sure that they would always be friends.
Wayward parents, boring teachers, teenage crushes, first heartbreaks – anything and everything could be faced as long as Florence had Rowena by her side.
But then she didn’t.
And life had to be redrawn and reconsidered.
Being a grown-up has its perks, but as Rowena faces the biggest challenge of her life, and Florence wonders if it’s time to stop running away from hers, there’s a wise soul who knows the one thing that can help them both. Some friendships are meant to last forever, and it’s never too late for forever to start again.
Joyous and heart-breaking, laugh-out-loud funny, life-affirming and unforgettable, join Flo and Ro on a journey that will warm your heart and perhaps make you wonder about those old friends who knew you so well.
My thoughts so far....
It is super interesting that the synopsis doesn't mention one of the most important parts of this story! The book starts off with Cassie, a middle aged psychic who is busy renovating and restoring an old camper van. When Cassie suddenly becomes ill she sets to work creating a scavenger hunt for her former student Florence and leaves the van to Florence in her will. It is quite an unusual start to a story, but as things are slowly starting to unfold, it is clear that this was very purposefully done on that part of the author. This story is definitely one that will take time to unfold. I'm only about 1/3 of the way in and things are already starting to get interesting!
I'm hoping to finish this book up while enjoying a few days away at my cabin next week, so when it is all done I'll pop back over here to give an update!

I finished up this book (as expected) at the cabin and the ending did not let me down. Cassie brings Florence back in touch with her former best friend Rowena and helps her reveal and accept her immense grief from the loss of someone else important in her life. Hoggarth carefully wove together multiple interesting stories with a message about the value of maintaining meaningful relationships. From arranged marriages, to former lesbian lovers to stalker ex-boyfriends, to a widow ready to move on, this book shares a variety of different perspectives and relationships. It focuses on growing up, facing the past and learning to move on.
I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it! I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next!
