Pull

This young adult novel was very interesting and quick read. With short chapters, it was hard to put down because, come on, you have time for one more right? The story follows a 17 year old girl named Mischa who is a strong student academically, has lupus and some very protective parents. When Mischa's best friend Bimi starts dating Nate, the adoptive brother of the school's top baseball pitcher, Casey, the groups of friends begin to intertwine and Casey and Mischa begin to notice one another. But this isn't just your typical teen romance where people start quickly coupling up right before prom, there is also a weird undertone. Mischa starts noticing the numbers 7205 appearing all around her and starts having some weird dreams about Casey. The two almost feel pulled towards each other. A weird youth pastor named Dave is also creepily around a lot and has convinced a cheerleader to become slightly obsessed with witches and occults, and then Mischa starts getting into a lot of accidents and near-misses. Could these things all be connected? You'll have to read to find out!

With all of the necessary elements of a good YA, parents who are too involved, instant chemistry between two people who have never talked or connected before, sneaking around and cutting class, important sports and school events etc., Pull will fit right in with other books in this genre. Aside from a strange pill, there is no mention of drugs or alcohol, or sex content other than kissing, making it very appropriate for younger teens. What sets Pull apart from many other teen romance novels is the unusual paranormal-type incidences that grow in frequency and danger as the novel advances. The book also ends with a bit of a cliff-hanger so I am interested to see how the rest of this series will follow!

I would recommend definitely recommend this book to YA readers and people who like suspense without things being too scary! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this awesome novel!
